B-17 Flying Fortress

The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was the first mass-produced, four-engine heavy bomber. It is still one of the most recognised aeroplanes ever built. It was most widely used for daylight strategic bombings of German industrial targets during World War II as part of the United States Eighth Air Force.

The 19th B-17 & BigBird Gathering has come and gone. We had 132 registered pilots this year. They came from as for away as Louisiana, Oklahoma, Missouri, New Mexico, Arkansas, Georgia, and of course Texas. There are some states that I probably forgot. Mack Hodges from Andersonville Georgia did a noon time show on Friday & Saturday with his B-29. The show was enjoyed by all. We had a full scale Nieuport 11 who also did several flybys shooting his machine gun creating lots of excitement. For the 3 day event we had approximately 2300 spectators. Channel 13 came out an did a live broadcast placing us on the news twice Friday afternoon. We are looking for a great show again next year. Please come out and join us for a great day of fun next year.

    Thank you,
    Nick Stratos,
    President
