B-17 Flying Fortress

The Boeing B-17 Flying Fortress was the first mass-produced, four-engine heavy bomber. It is still one of the most recognised aeroplanes ever built. It was most widely used for daylight strategic bombings of German industrial targets during World War II as part of the United States Eighth Air Force.

The Warbird Flyin was held at Bomberfield June 3rd. and 4th. It looked like the spectators had a very good time. Special thanks to Paul LeTourneau with his 15 ft. wing span P-61 Black Widow coming from Oconto Wisconsin. He also had a couple of other planes too. Dennis Crooks, Jim Nicosia and Merlyn Graves came from Illinois with some large and beautiful planes. Carl Buchhuber brought a huge Super Connie and a DC-6. He came from Mayville, Wisconsin. Dr. Berastain from Corpus Christi and Gary Dye from Mission.

A special thanks to Krum, Bob, and Lenny, the Coonass Squadron from the New Orleans area. They had numerous warbirds and put on a fabulous show. Wayne Moore and Pete came from La. also. B.B. Webber flew his B-29, Super Connie and his new Convair 440. With out these and all the other pilots we could not have put on such a good show. With out B.B. Weber it would have not got off the ground.

Thanks to our Venders that gave us the prizes. Bob's Aircraft Documentation, WW 1 Aero Skyways, Radio South, SR Batteries. Frank Tiano Enterprises, YS Performance, FMA Direct, Lone Star Models, Horizon Hobbies, Precision Cut Kits, Nick Zaroli Plans, R/C Report Magazine, OmniModels, Tower Hobbies, Master Airscrew, Bob Smith Industries, RTL Fasteners.

If you enjoyed this one, look for the B-17 Gathering the 15th,16th, and 17th. of September. The Russian Bear will fly. 21 ft. wingspan.
